Air National Guard Assistant to the Commander, Air Mobility Command
Major General Thomas J. Haynes serves as the Air National Guard assistant to the Commander, Air Mobility Command. In this capacity, he is responsible for advising the Commander and staff on all issues impacting the Air National Guard. He ensures requirements to support the Air National Guard are included in the planning, programming and execution phases of the Air Mobility Command mission elements. General Haynes is responsible for coordination of Air National Guard issues through the Director of the Air National Guard.
General Haynes received his Air Force commission through the Air Force Reserve Officers' Training Corps Program on June 12, 1971. He was a distinguished graduate and recipient of the Air Force Times Award and General Dynamics Award for Military Excellence. He served on active duty with the United States Air Force from June 1971 to January 1979. He joined the Rhode Island Air National Guard in July 1980 and accepted a technician position in March 1989. Prior to his present assignment, General Haynes served as the Assistant Adjutant General for Air, Rhode Island Air National Guard, Wing Commander and Operations Group Commander of the 143rd Airlift Wing. In February 1991, he was mobilized and later deployed to Europe and Southwest Asia for Desert Storm/Shield. He has served as a deployed Mission Commander for Desert Storm, the Deployed Air Reserve Command Director of Operations, Air Expeditionary Force 4, in conjunction with Joint Forge and the Director of Mobility Forces at the Combined Air and Space Operations Center, Al Udeid. General Haynes also served as the Weapons System Council Chair for the Guard C-130 community and as a member of the Director's Airfield Advisory Council from Sept 2003 thru April 2005. He has also occupied a dual hat position as the Air National Guard Advisor to Plans and Programs (A-5), Air Mobility Command.
