Brigadier General Samuel M. Shiver is the
assistant adjutant general for air of the Massachusetts Air National Guard. He
is responsible for oversight of all Air National Guard units in Massachusetts,
He is responsible for command, control, and supervision of all Air National Guard units in Massachusetts and is tasked with ensuring their ability to respond to peacetime contingencies while maintaining readiness to accomplish their wartime missions.
The general enlisted in the Air Force in 1972 as a linguist and attended the Defense Language Institute's Mandarin Chinese course. He received his commission from Officer Training School in 1973 and served on active duty until joining the Air National Guard in 1982. He has held many command and staff positions from squadron pilot to vice wing commander. He commanded the 102nd Fighter Wing, Massachusetts Air National Guard, before assuming his present position in April 2000.
