Brigadier
General Michael P. Hickey is the assistant adjutant general also serving as
deputy commanding general for Air in the Joint Force Headquarters, Rhode Island
National Guard. He serves as the chief advisor to the adjutant general on all
matters pertaining to Air National Guard programs, policies, command, and
control, operations and management of the Rhode Island Air National Guard and
provides staff assistance guidance and direction concerning Air National Guard
personnel, administration, training, recruiting, retention incentives, and
budgetary matters.
Brigadier General Hickey received his Air Force Commission from the Air Force Officer Training School at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas where he was selected as a distinguished graduate. He served as an instructor pilot at Craig Air Force Base, Alabama until his discharge from active service in April of 1973. Brigadier General Hickey joined the 143rd Airlift Wing in December 1974 and served as an instructor pilot, safety officer, assistant flight commander, flight commander and squadron commander of the 143rd Airlift Squadron. He accepted a full-time military position in June of 1994 serving as the chief of standardization and evaluation and logistics group commander. General Hickey has accumulated over 7,500 hours of flying time in various aircraft including over 2200 hours as an instructor pilot. In September of 1990 Brigadier General Hickey served as the Air National Guard liaison to 21st Air Force for Operation Desert Shield and then served as deployed squadron commander for the 143rd Airlift Squadron at Mildenhall Air Base, United Kingdom during Operation Desert Storm. During Operation Joint Forge General Hickey flew 15 humanitarian relief missions into Sarajevo in support of the United Nations Bosnian relief effort. Brig Gen Hickey served as the chief of staff, Rhode Island Air National Guard and the commander of the Rhode Island National Guard Joint Force Headquarters.
