General Officer Biography

MAJOR GENERAL RANDALL E. HORN

Major General Randall E. Horn is the adjutant general for the New Mexico National Guard. He commands the Army and Air National Guard, as well as serves as the commander of the State Defense Force. In addition to his federal duties, General Horn serves as military chief of staff to the Governor and as the Governor's principal advisor on military affairs. He is also the president of the State Armory Board and provides oversight for the New Mexico Civil Air Patrol.

General Horn was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force in 1975 through the University of New Mexico Reserve Officer Training Corps program. He was assigned to the 43rd Tactical Fighter Squadron at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska, flying in the F-4 Phantom. He was involved in numerous intercepts of Soviet bomber and reconnaissance aircraft in support of this air defense mission.
