MAJOR GENERAL GREGORY B. GARDNER

 

Major General Gregory B. Gardner assumed the duties of the adjutant general of Kansas on February 10, 1999. As the adjutant general, he guides the preparation of 8,500 Kansas Army and Air National Guard citizen soldiers and airmen to respond in times of state or national emergency. As Director of the Division of Emergency Management for Kansas, he directs and coordinates state and local government agencies when emergencies and natural disasters strike in the state. General Gardner also serves as the Director of Homeland Security for the State. In this capacity, he is responsible for deterring and, if necessary, responding to a terrorist attack.

The General entered the Air National Guard as a distinguished graduate of Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps in 1976. Prior to his present assignment, Brigadier General Gardner served as Commander of the 184th Bomb Wing, the first B-1B Bomber unit in the Air National Guard.
