The general began his military career by enlisting in the New Hampshire Air National Guard in May of 1968. Following completion of basic training, he received a direct commission in February 1969. He is the first member of the New Hampshire Air Guard to become the wing commander from a Guard only background. He is a command pilot with more than 5,000 flying hours.
