Brigadier General John F. Holechek assumed duties as the Deputy STARC Commander, Headquarters State Area Command, Florida Amy National Guard with Attachment to Detachment 1, STARC FLARNG (83rd Troop Command), Tallahassee, FL on 6 October 2000. The 83rd Troop Command consists of 2 O6 commands and 5 battalions made up of 32 companies and separate detachments. Authorized personnel strength of the command is approximately 2000 personnel with the type of units ranging from Aviation and Special Forces to Signal and Finance.
The General began his commissioned service following completion of the Florida Army National Guard Officer Candidate School in 1972. General Holechek was first assigned to the 853rd Supply and Services Company holding the positions of Memorial Activities Officer, Platoon Leader, Operations Officer and Commander. After his tour as company commander he transferred to the 50th Area Support Group where he held positions of Major Equipment Supply Officer, General Supply Officer, Plans and Operations Officer and Field Services Officer. Then General Holechek transferred to the 83rd Troop Command where he held the positions of Field Services Officer, Assistant Operations Officer and Director of Services after which he was transferred to the 53rd Support Battalion as the commander. After battalion command he was briefly assigned to STARC-FL as a Maintenance Staff Officer and Logistics Management Officer. Next he was assigned as the Operations Officer at the 211th Regiment (RTI) and shortly assumed command of the Installation Support Unit at Camp Blanding. He returned to the 211th Regiment as the commander and was then assigned as the commander of the 83rd Troop Command and promoted to Brigadier General.
