MAJOR GENERAL CLAUDE A. WILLIAMS

 

The Adjutant General, Virginia National Guard

Major General Claude A. Williams assumed the duties of Adjutant General of Virginia on 1 October 1998 after being appointed to the post by Governor Jim Gilmore. As The Adjutant General of Virginia, Major General Williams is responsible for the combat readiness of units, and the administration and training of over 9000 Virginia Army and Air National Guard personnel.

Major General Williams was commissioned a second lieutenant, Transportation, in June 1969, upon appointment from ROTC. He was commissioned a Distinguished Military Graduate at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and was the Honor Graduate of his Officer Basic Course. His active service included duty with the 805th Transportation Company in Vietnam, and service in Saudi Arabia as commander of Virginia's 1030th Engineer Battalion during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Prior to his current assignment, the General served as Commander, Engineer Brigade, 28th Infantry Division (Mechanized).
