BRIGADIER GENERAL JOSEPH W. GODWIN

Brigadier General Joseph W. Godwin assumed the duties of Assistant Adjutant General for the Virginia Army National Guard on 1 October 1996. He is responsible for monitoring the activities and progress of all STARC staff sections with emphasis on the personnel and logistics areas. He has oversight responsibility for Recruiting and Retention, and plans and conducts the statewide Command Inspection Program.

Brigadier General Godwin was commissioned a second lieutenant, Air Defense, in June 1966 upon graduation from the Virginia Army National Guard Officer Candidate School. Prior to his current assignment, he has served in progressively more responsible positions including Commander, Troop Command, and more recently as Commander, 329th Support Group (Area). In this capacity, he led the Group in its participation in several major exercises which contributed to Active and Reserve Component cooperation.
