Major General Robert Lee Halverson assumed the duties of the Commander, 49th Armored Division, Austin, Texas, in September 1998. As the Commander for the 49th Armored Division, Major General Halverson is responsible for pertinent operational, training, administration and functional areas of subordinate units to assure their ability to accomplish their peacetime and mobilization mission.
Major General Halverson began his military career in 1963, upon graduation from Colorado State University, being commissioned as a Military Intelligence Officer. After successful company command, he served a tour of duty in Vietnam as an Intelligence Advisor in I Corps Tactical Zone. Prior to his present assignment Major General Halverson served as the Deputy Commander - Support, 49th Armored Division.
