MAJOR GENERAL JOHN E. PRENDERGAST

The Adjutant General, Montana National Guard

Major General John E. Prendergast assumed duties as The Adjutant General of Montana in January of 1993. As the Adjutant General he is responsible to the Governor of Montana for the Air and Army National Guard, Disaster and Emergency Service, Veterans Affairs, and Centralized Planning.

The Generals career began in 1958 in the Air National Guard. In 1960 he transferred to the Army National Guard and received his Commission in 1967 as an Ordnance Officer. Prior to this assignment, Major General Prendergast served as Deputy Chief of Staff Maintenance, and most recently as Chief of Staff, Montana Army National Guard.

As an avid runner, MG Prendergast was recognized for running 25,000 miles in August of 2000. He continues to add miles to that figure.
In February of 2001 he was awarded the Ordnance Order of Samuel Sharpe medal, the highest professional recognition throughout the U. S. Army of a soldier's achievement and contributions to the ordnance field.
