MAJOR GENERAL MARIANNE MATHEWSON-CHAPMAN

Major General Marianne Mathewson-Chapman assumed the duties as Deputy Surgeon General/Special Assistant, Army National Guard on 1 October 1998. As Deputy Surgeon General, she advises the Surgeon General-Army and Director ARNG on medical care, policies, and health standards in the ARNG. She guides the development and implementation of medical initiatives on health and wellness, immunization issues and health policies impacting mobilization readiness and post-deployment of ARNG citizen soldiers in 54 states and territories.

The General's active military service began in 1970. She was commissioned in the Navy Nurse Corps, USN and served on active duty. She has served as battalion surgeon in combat units in California, Pennsylvania and Florida. She deployed to Desert Storm as Chief Nurse, FLARNG, in the 202nd Medical Group and Deputy Chief Nurse for the 3rd Medical Command. Following her return she was selected as the State Chief Nurse, FL-ARNG. Prior to this assignment, Major General Mathewson-Chapman served as the Special Assistant to the Chief, ANC for Mobilization and ARNG Affairs. In this position, she was responsible for policies to enhance the health and readiness of the ARNG, ARNG Equal Opportunity, AC/RC integration, and RC issues impacting recruitment, training and retention of ARNG Army Nurse Corps officers.
