MAJOR GENERAL DARREL P. BAKER

 

Retired effective Jul 31, 2000

Major General Darrel P. Baker assumed duties as Deputy Commander of Headquarters, State Area Command, Texas Army National Guard, Camp Mabry, Austin, Texas on January 1, 1994. As Deputy Commander, he is responsible for assisting the Texas Adjutant General in the mission readiness of Army National Guard forces within the state. In addition, he provides command, control and supervision required to accomplish both federal and state missions of the Texas Army National Guard.

Major General Baker's active military service began in 1962 when he was commissioned as a 2d Lieutenant, Armor, upon completion of ROTC summer training. In 1966, Major General Baker joined the Texas Army National Guard as Executive Officer, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 36th Infantry Division and most recently as the Deputy Commander, Headquarters State Area Command. In that capacity, Major General Baker is responsible for pertinent operational, training, administration and functional areas of subordinate units to assure their ability to accomplish their peacetime and mobilization mission.
