MAJOR GENERAL WALTER A. PAULSON II

Deputy Commanding General (Reserve Component) Fifth United States Army

Major General Paulson assumed duties as Deputy Commanding General (Reserve Component) Fifth United States Army on 4 January 2001.  Previous to this, he was the Deputy Commander, State Area Command, Arkansas Army National Guard.

Major General Paulson began his military career as a ROTC cadet at the University of Central Arkansas and was commissioned in May 1970. He entered active service with the United States Army in September 1970 where he served as a Field Artillery Information Officer, Rotary Wing Pilot, Helicopter Section Commander, and Race Relations Officer. He left the Active Army in February 1975 and entered the Arkansas Army National Guard in May of that year. Major General Paulson held numerous command and staff assignments including two battalion commands and command of the 39th Infantry Brigade (Separate) "The Arkansas Brigade", before assuming his current position as Deputy Commanding General (Reserve Component) Fifth United States Army.
