Major General David Hartley assumed the duties of Commander, 38th Infantry Division, in Indianapolis, Indiana on December 4, 1999. As the Commander, 38th Infantry Division, he is responsible for directing the planning, deployment, organizing, coordination and control of all elements of the 38th Infantry Division.
General Hartley began his Army National Guard career on November 1, 1962. He entered the Ohio Military Academy, Officer Candidate School in 1964 and received a commission as a Second Lieutenant in 1965. Prior to his current assignment, General Hartley served as the Assistant Division Commander of Training, 38th Infantry Division (Mechanized). He supported both the priorities of The Adjutant General for the State of Ohio and the 38th Infantry Division Commanding General.
