BRIGADIER GENERAL JAMES F. REED III

Brigadier General James F. Reed III assumed the duties as Assistant Adjutant General of Rhode Island, and Deputy Commanding General of the Rhode Island National Guard, on 17 October 1997. As Assistant Adjutant General, he represents The Adjutant General as required, and is responsible for formulating and developing plans and programs in response to requirements identified by the National Guard Bureau and The Adjutant General. He also serves as Chairman of the State Safety Committee, Army representative on the TQM Executive Council, and as Executive Director of the Army Quality Council.

The General's military service began in March 1957. He was commissioned an Air Defense officer following Officer Candidate School. Prior to this assignment, Brigadier General Reed was the Deputy STARC Commander/Chief of Staff, HQ STARC, RIARNG. In that capacity he served as supervisor and coordinator over the primary staff officers and special staff officers of the Rhode Island Army National Guard in concert with the stated guidance, objectives and vision of The Adjutant General, maintaining effective communications with the Assistant Adjutants General and major commanders of the Army and Air commands.
