The Adjutant General, Connecticut National Guard
Major General William Anthony Cugno assumed duties as the Adjutant General for both the Army and Air National Guard, State of Connecticut, Hartford CT, on June 1, 1999. As the Adjutant General, he is responsible to the Governor and the Chief, National Guard Bureau, for providing operationally trained, equipped and mission-ready forces to support both the U.S. mobilization requirements and state emergency operations.
The General's active military career began in 1967. He was commissioned an infantry officer following Officer Candidate School, Fort Benning GA, and was subsequently assigned as a platoon leader, 3rd Bn 47th Inf, 9th ID, Republic of Vietnam. Prior to his current assignment, Major General Cugno served as the Assistant Adjutant General, Connecticut Army National Guard, over-seeing the administration, training and operations of the State's 3,900 Army Guard members. Major General Cugno served in a number of senior positions to include Director of Plans, Operations, Training and Military Support; Commander, 85th Troop Command; Commander 242d Engineer Bn; and State Recruiting and Retention Manager, during his career in the Active Guard/Reserve Program.
