Major
General Clark W. Martin is the Commander of the New Jersey Air National Guard.
The general entered the Air Force in 1966, having been commissioned through the AFROTC program at The Citadel, Charleston, SC. After navigator training at Mather AFB, CA, he served as an RF-4 reconnaissance systems officer in the 14th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron at Udorn RTAFB, Thailand, 1967-68. During that time he also served for 100 days with the 23rd Tactical Air Support Squadron, Nakon Phanom RTAFB, as a forward air controller in the O-2A during the Tet offensive. He flew 153 combat missions, 100 of them over North Vietnam.
Following a tour of duty at Hahn AB, Germany, the general separated from the USAF in 1972. He later joined the USAF Reserve in 1975 and transferred to the Air National Guard in 1981. He is a master navigator with more than 3,500 hours of flying time, primarily in the F-4D/E.
As a civilian, General Martin is the president of Martin-Bontempo, Inc., a government relations and association management firm in Trenton, NJ. His professional experience also includes service as a magazine editor and general assignment newspaper reporter.
