MAJOR GENERAL HUGH T. BROOMALL

Special Assistant to the Director, Air National Guard

Major General Hugh T. Broomall is the Special Assistant to the Director, Air National Guard. He is responsible for strategy development, state and federal liaison, inter-agency coordination, and special studies supporting the one hundred and six thousand Air National Guard members nationwide.

General Broomall was commissioned in November 1974 through the Academy of Military Science, McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base. Prior to receiving his commission, General Broomall served as an enlisted member in the Delaware Air National Guard. Following his commissioning, General Broomall attended the Department of Defense Armed Forces Intelligence Officer Course at Lowry Air Force Base and upon graduation was assigned as Air Intelligence Officer. During that assignment, he attended the United States Air Force Intelligence Service Soviet Military Power Training, United States Air Force Tactical Air Warfare Training, Battle Staff Management, Special Operations School, and Latin American Orientation. He deployed worldwide in support of exercises and contingencies. General Broomall was designated the Military Airlift command's Intelligence Officer of the Year.

General Broomall has commanded the 166th Support Group, Delaware Air National Guard, where he was responsible for all matters relating to civil engineering, personnel, services, security and communications. In 1997, General Broomall was selected by Delaware's Senator William V. Roth to serve as a member of the Congressional Fellowship Program. He served in this capacity from January to November 1997. As a congressional fellow he served as a primary military staff officer supporting the United States Senate North Atlantic Treaty Organization Observer Group. General Broomall served as the National Guard Bureau United States Property and Fiscal Officer for Delaware. In this role, he served as the senior federal officer responsible for all federal facilities, transportation, comptroller, contracting, and all federal funding with accountability to the Chief National Guard Bureau. Prior to his current assignment, General Broomall served as the Assistant Adjutant General - Air, Delaware National Guard.
