Brig Gen Michelle R. Mulberry is the Director of Joint Staff for the Wyoming Military Department. In this position, she oversees the day-to-day operations of the Joint Staff and assists the Adjutant General on all strategic military matters. In addition, General Mulberry fulfills the role of Adjutant General during periods of extended absence. As the Director of Joint Staff, she oversees the Joint Staff assigned personnel and is responsible for Wyoming Military Department policy and personnel actions. General Mulberry represents the Wyoming Military Department at the national level on committees and provides liaison on National Guard Bureau Policy issues as requested by the Adjutant General. She is currently the Directors Advisory Council Central Region Vice Chair.
General Mulberry entered the North Dakota Army National Guard in February 1990. She achieved the rank of sergeant while flying as a medic on the UH-1 Huey Helicopter and later the UH-60 Black Hawk Helicopter. She completed her nursing degree from Laramie County Community College, Cheyenne, Wyo. in 1999 and transferred to the Wyoming ANG in September 2000 when she direct commissioned as a second lieutenant Flight Nurse. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Wyoming in 2004 and received her Master of Military Operational Art and Science Degree from Air University in 2012. She has served as the 187th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron Commander, the 153d Mission Support Group Commander and the first non-rated Vice Wing Commander of the 153d Airlift Wing. Prior to her current position, the General was the Wyoming Air National Guard Chief of Staff-Air.
General Mulberry has flown more than 1,000 hours in C-130 Hercules, C-17 Globemaster III and KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft and has transported hundreds of ill and injured warriors. She has deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, Operation NEW DAWN and in support of Hurricane Katrina. She completed an overseas tour where she taught aeromedical evacuation techniques in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, to more than 60 Congolese doctors and nurses.
