BRIGADIER GENERAL JOHN J. CAMPO

 
Official Photo Brig. Gen. John J. Campo is the Director, Joint Staff, Joint Force Headquarters, District of Columbia National Guard, Washington D.C. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing and managing the development, execution, and evaluation of joint staff programs and policies pertaining to the command, control, and operation of joint functions within the District of Columbia Army and District of Columbia Air National Guard. He manages readiness of joint defense programs to include the Civil Support Team, Homeland Response Force, State Partnership Program, Counter Drug Task Force, and Defense Support to Civil Authorities.

General Campo enlisted in the US Army in 1991 and was commissioned in 1992 as a Warrant Officer. Following rotary wing flight training, he served on active duty for nine years flying the UH-1 and AH-64. General Campo received a Direct Commission in 2001 and then joined the Air National Guard. He has been qualified in the KC-135R/E, C-40, and C-38.

General Campo has served in numerous worldwide operational assignments. During his time served as the Commander, 113th Wing, he was responsible for missions including overseas combat operations, the 24/7 National Capital Region Aerospace Control Alert duty, and the execution of worldwide special air missions for cabinet members, Congress, and other senior military leaders. Prior to that assignment, he served in various command and leadership positions at the squadron, group, and wing level such as the 113th Wing Vice Commander, 113th Maintenance Group Commander, 113th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron Commander, Airlift Squadron Flight Commander, Chief of Aircrew Training, and Chief of Aircrew Scheduling. General Campo also served as the Northeast Tanker Taskforce Deputy Air-Bridge Commander for the New Jersey Air National Guard. He has deployed numerous times performing in combat, combat support, and counter-narcotic operations for the US Army and Air National Guard in Central and South America, Bosnia, and Kuwait. He served in several named operations that include JOINT TASK FORCE-BRAVO, JOINT TASK FORCE-SIX, VIGILANT LION, COLUMBO, NOBLE EAGLE, and OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM/OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. Prior to his current position, the general was the Commander, 113th Wing, Joint Base Andrews, Maryland.
