Major General Allen R. Dehnert is assigned as the Assistant Adjutant General - Air, Texas National Guard and Commander, Texas Air National Guard, Camp Mabry, Austin, Texas. He serves as the principle advisor to the Adjutant General for all Air National Guard issues. In this assignment he is responsible for formulating, developing and coordinating all programs, policies and plans affecting almost 3500 Air National Guard personnel throughout the State of Texas. His responsibilities include, but are not limited to, recruiting and retention, training, force management, budget, equal opportunity, and mobilization of Air National Guard units and personnel.
General Dehnert earned his commission from the United States Air Force Officer's Training School at Lackland Air Force Base in July 1972. After his commission, General Dehnert returned to the 273rd Ground Electronics Engineering Installation Agency Squadron where he served in several staff officer positions. In 1982, he transferred to Garland, Texas, where he held numerous command and staff positions in 221st Combat Communications Squadron and 254th Combat Communications Group. General Dehnert was transferred to the State Headquarters in 1999 where he served as the director of human resources and Chief of Staff. In addition to his service to the Texas National Guard, General Dehnert has performed several tours of active duty in support of the Air Force Communication Command and the National Guard Bureau. He was appointed to Assistant Adjutant General - Air in November 2002 and Commander, Texas Air National Guard in February 2006.
