MAJOR GENERAL MARK D. PIPER

 
Official Photo Maj. Gen. Mark Piper serves as Director, Plans, Programs and Requirements for the Air National Guard. In his role as NGB/A5/8, General Piper advocates and integrates the Air National Guard’s $12 billion annual appropriation into the U.S. Air Force and Department of Defense strategic planning and programming processes. He leads a team that plans for future Air National Guard roles and missions and integration with active and reserve components. The Directorate supports more than 108,000 Guard members, 90 wings and 174 geographically separated units throughout the 50 states, three territories, and the District of Columbia.

General Piper received his commission from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1995. He served 11 years on active duty as an F-16 instructor and evaluator pilot in various units in Pacific Air Forces, Air Combat Command, and Air Education and Training Command. Since joining the Guard in 2006, General Piper assignments include command at the Squadron, Group and Wing levels; Joint Staff Liaison to the Federal Emergency Management Agency; and Chief, Air National Guard Force Planning and Basing.

General Piper is a command pilot with more than 2,400 hours in fighter aircraft to include more than 300 combat hours in support of Operations NORTHERN WATCH, SOUTHERN WATCH, IRAQI FREEDOM, and ENDURING FREEDOM. Prior to his current assignment, General Piper served as Director, Senior Leader Management Office, National Guard Bureau, where he was responsible for planning and executing senior leader force development and Joint human capital management for Air and Army National Guard general officers, senior executive service members, GS-15s, Colonels, E-9s, and Joint officers.
