BRIGADIER GENERAL JOHN J. CRAWFORD

Photograph General Crawford received a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from the University of Texas (Arlington), Arlington, Texas in 1966. His military education includes Air Command and Staff College, 1977; National Security Management Course, 1987, both by correspondence; and Air War College, in residence, 1989.

The general began his military career when he enlisted in the Air Force Reserves, 69th Troop Carrier Squadron, Hensley Field, Dallas, Texas, in April 1955 as an aircraft mechanic. In 1959, he became a flight engineer on the C-119, accumulating 900 hours in the C-119. He was commissioned in July 1964 through the Outstanding Airman Program as an aircraft maintenance officer, 512th Troop Carrier Wing, Carswell Air Force Base, Texas. He transferred to the 184th Consolidated Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, Kansas ANG, McConnell AFB, Kan. as an aircraft maintenance administrative officer in October 1969. In August 1981, he was reassigned to the 184th Combat Support Squadron, Kansas ANG, as director of administration. He assumed command of the 184th CSS in July 1952. In April 1986, he was appointed deputy commander, Resource Management Squadron. He was reassigned as vice commander, 184th Tactical Fighter Group in March 1987 and assumed the position of director of resources, Headquarters, Kansas ANG, Topeka, Kan. in July 1988. He was appointed as the executive support staff officer to the adjutant general of Kansas in November 1991. In May 1992, he assumed his current position as assistant adjutant general for air for the state of Kansas.

General Crawford's military awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with four bronze oak leaf clusters, Air Force Reserve Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with one silver and three bronze oak leaf clusters, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with two hourglass devices, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and the Air Force Training Ribbon. His state awards include the Kansas National Guard Service Medal with two devices.

The general was promoted to and federally recognized as a brigadier general on March 11, 1993.
