BRIGADIER GENERAL DONALD R. BEVIS, JR
Brig. Gen. Bevis is the Vice Director of Staff, National Guard Bureau (NGB), Pentagon. He synchronizes and integrates policy, plans, budgetary programs and cross functional issues within the NGB Army, Air and Joint Staffs. His responsibilities include direct support to the Chief, NGB, as a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Vice Chief, NGB. He is also responsible for ensuring the National Guard’s 54 States, Territories and District have the necessary resources and capabilities to support the Army and Air National Guard’s federal and homeland requirements as they support their respective combat missions and provide the Governors a ready force.
General Bevis began his military career in 1986 in the Arkansas Air National Guard (ANG) serving as an enlisted member in the intelligence field. General Bevis was commissioned in 1994 through the Academy of Military Science. He is a Joint Qualified Officer, graduated Wing Commander, U.S. Army War College graduate and former Congressional Fellow. He has previously served in numerous key positions, including Chief of Staff for the Delaware National Guard, 166th Airlift Wing Commander, Vice Commander and Mission Support Group Commander. His other notable leadership assignments include four NGB Deputy Director tours with ANG Programs, NGB Joint Operations, NGB Plans and Policy and NGB Office of Legislative Liaison. He also served in the Office of Secretary of Defense as a Senior Policy Advisor to the Reserve Forces Policy Board.
Prior to his current assignment, the General Bevis was the Deputy Commander, North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Mission Iraq (NMI), Baghdad. He ensured NMI’s mission success by providing best practices to the Iraqi Ministry of Defense senior leaders to establish an enduring national security strategy, national military strategy and repeatable defense planning and programming processes supporting Iraq’s Security Forces. He worked directly with Iraq’s Defense Ministry, Office of the National Security Advisor and the Prime Minister’s Operations Center.
