MAJOR GENERAL JOEL W. NORMAN

 

Retired effective Sep 30, 1999

Major General Joel W. Norman assumed command of 62nd Troop Command, Alabama Army National Guard on August 22, 1997. As commander of 62nd Troop Command, he provides command and control for one engineer group made up of four battalions, two field artillery battalions, one air defense artillery battalion, and one aviation battalion. He commands Task Force 6, Alabama Emergency Military Assistance (EMA) consisting of three sub-task force headquarters. He is responsible for effectively using available resources to produce mission capable units that can mobilize and deploy on short notice.

Major General Norman was commissioned 19 June 1961 by Alabama Military Academy (AMA). He served four years as an enlisted soldier. Prior to this assignment, Major General Norman served as Commander, 31st Armored Brigade, Alabama Army National Guard. He also served on Active Duty as Commander, 226th Theater Area Support Group, Southwest Asia (Operation Desert Shied/Storm) during the period of September 1990 ' July 1991. Major General Norman is branch qualified in Quartermaster, Field Artillery, and Ordnance.
