MAJOR GENERAL JERRY L. FENWICK

Maj. Gen. Jerry L. Fenwick was the Director, Office of the Joint Surgeon, National Guard Bureau, Arlington, Virginia and ANG Assistant to the Surgeon General, United States Air Force, Pentagon, Washington, DC.  As the Joint Surgeon General of the National Guard he made recommendations, provided input and proposes solution sets affecting 455 thousand National Guard Members to the Chief, National Guard Bureau.  He coordinated and worked closely with HHS, FEMA, and other civil authorities requiring National Guard Assistance.  General Fenwick was dual hatted as the Air National Guard Assistant to the Surgeon General, United States Air Force. As the senior medical officer of the ANG Medical Service, he advised on all internal and external matters pertaining to the health, medical readiness and training of Air National Guard Airmen during their transitions to and from active duty.

General Fenwick was commissioned in the U.S. Army under the Health Profession Scholarship Program. He was commissioned Captain after graduating from Eastern Virginia Medical School, Norfolk, Va. After completing his medical training in Emergency Medicine and various Army assignments, he transferred to the South Carolina Air National Guard in 1997 and subsequently to the U.S. Air Force Reserve in 2008.  He returned to the Air National Guard with the State of Missouri in 2010.  He has held positions of Squadron Medical Officer, Chief of Aerospace Medicine, Squadron Commander, State Air Surgeon, Air National Guard Assistant to the Command Surgeon, Pacific Air Forces and Air National Guard Assistant to the Command Surgeon, Air Mobility Command prior to assuming his current position. He completed his professional military education at Air War College in 2003. General Fenwick has more than 900 flight hours in various Air Force weapon systems with over 300 combat and combat support flight hours. He has deployed as an Army infantry battalion surgeon during Desert Storm, as a medical team member with Joint Special Operations Command, and in support of the Air Force mission in Antarctica. He has also deployed several times to Afghanistan and Iraq as a critical care air transport team physician and CCATT advisor.
