General Officer Biography

BRIGADIER GENERAL JOHN J. HARTNETT

Brigadier General John J. Hartnett is the chief of staff, Washington Air National Guard, Camp Murray, Wash.  He is responsible for directing and coordinating headquarters staff activities to support the 2,400 members of the Washington Air National Guard.

The general began his Air Force career in 1971 as a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy.  He served in Thailand during the Vietnam War.  After serving on active duty for eight years he joined the Washington Air National Guard.  He deployed to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in support of Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm.  He is a command pilot with more than 4,800 flying hours.
