BRIGADIER GENERAL MICHAEL T. HESTON

Brigadier General Michael T. Heston serves as Assistant Adjutant General - Army, Vermont National Guard. In this assignment he is responsible to provide leadership, mentoring, oversight and evaluation to Vermont's brigade-level commands. In addition, General Heston provides advice and feedback to Vermont's Adjutant General on readiness issues including unit status reports, annual training inspections and other internal and external reviews.

General Heston received his commission from Vermont's Officer Candidate School in 1990. Prior to attending OCS he served as an enlisted member of the United States Marine Corps Reserve and Vermont Army National Guard. He commanded at all levels from platoon to brigade, and is a veteran of three deployments to Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom. Prior to his assignment as Assistant Adjutant General he served as commander of Vermont's Garrison Support Command. He is qualified in the Infantry and Military Police branches, and is a graduate of the following courses: Reserve Component National Security; Infantry Brigade and Battalion Command; Command and General Staff Officer; Antiterrorism Officer; Combined Arms and Services Staff School; Military Police Officer Advanced; Master Fitness Trainer; Basic and Small Group Instructor Training; and Military Police Officer Basic.

General Heston has been the fulltime Deputy Adjutant General of the Vermont National Guard since June, 2013. He was employed by the Vermont State Police from 1983 until retiring in 2009.
