BRIGADIER GENERAL VAL L. PETERSON

Brigadier General Val L. Peterson is the Land Component Commander for the Utah Army National Guard. In this function, he is responsible for the training, readiness, administration, logistics, and Uniform Code of Military Justice for the six Major Army Commands within the state of Utah.

General Peterson began his military service by enlisting in Company B, 142nd Military Intelligence Battalion (Linguist) in 1984. He commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1987 from the Reserve Officer Training Corps program at Brigham Young University. For the past 27 years he served in a variety of positions in the 300th Military Intelligence Brigade (Linguist) to include Section Leader/Platoon Leader/Training Officer, and Company Commander in Company C, 141st Military Intelligence Battalion (Linguist). General Peterson served as Military Occupational Specialty Support Officer, S2, S3, Executive Officer, and Battalion Commander for the 141st Military Intelligence Battalion (Linguist). He served as Assistant Plans and Operations Officer, Language Section Chief, Headquarters Company Commander and S3 for the 300th Military Brigade (Linguist). He briefly left Military Intelligence to serve as the S3 for the 97th Troop Command. General Peterson returned to the 300th Military Intelligence Brigade (Linguist) to serve in his most recent duties as Commander. He then moved to Joint Force Headquarters to serve as the J2.
