Brigadier General Stephen E. Rader
Brigadier General Stephen E. Rader is Assistant Adjutant General, Wyoming Air National Guard, serving as its commander, with headquarters in Cheyenne, Wyoming. General Rader is responsible for unit readiness, leadership and strategic planning to support all state and federal mission requirements for the more than 1,200 airmen in the153rd Airlift Wing, who hail from across the nation.
General Rader began his military career on active duty in 1978 as a vehicle maintenance technician. He served at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, until separating from active duty as a sergeant in 1982. He joined the Wyoming Air National Guard in 1983 as a communications technician. He was commissioned in 1986 through the Academy of Military Science and subsequently trained as a C-130 Navigator. He served as a drill status guardsman from 1983 until 1994 when he was hired as a dual-status technician. He became Commander of the 187th Airlift Squadron in 1998 and served in that position until 2004 when he assumed command of the 153rd Operations Group. He was selected as the 153rd Airlift Wing Vice Commander in March 2009 and served in that position until assuming the duties of 153rd Airlift Wing Commander in 2011. In 2013 he relinquished command of theWing and moved to Joint Force Headquarters.
