Brigadier General Charles W. Chappuis Jr
Brigadier General Charles W. Chappuis, Jr. was the State Air Surgeon. He served as the primary liaison between the individual medical units, the Adjutant General, the Air Surgeon, and the Army National Guard Chief Surgeon on force protection medical issues, aspects of homeland security, and other medical matters. He ensures the state maintains a viable, healthy, and medically ready force for worldwide deployment and availability.
General Chappuis received a direct commission in the Louisiana Air National Guard in 1998 serving as Flight Surgeon in the 159th Medical Squadron. He served as Chief of Clinical Services, Commander of the 159th Medical Group, State Surgeon, and State Air Surgeon, Louisiana National Guard. General Chappuis deployed as Clinical Director of Critical Care Air Transport Teams at Ramstein Air Base, Germany; as a General Surgeon with the 31st Combat Support Hospital, Balad Air Base, Iraq; and Commander of the 447th Expeditionary Medical Squadron, Baghdad, Iraq. General Chappuis has logged over 135 combat and combat support flight hours in Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. After leading the 159th Medical Group in the relief effort at the Louisiana Superdome following Hurricane Katrina, he served as Medical Commander, Joint Task Force Belle Chasse as well as Commander of the Expeditionary Medical Squadron deployed to Naval Air Station - Joint Reserve Base, New Orleans caring for all military forces stationed in the area.
