BRIGADIER GENERAL DONALD L. JOHNSON

 

Assistant Adjutant General - Air, Tennessee National Guard

Brigadier General Donald L. Johnson is Assistant Adjutant General - Air, Tennessee National Guard. In this capacity, he commands and ensures the readiness of Tennessee's three flying and three mission support units. The flying units consist of the 118th Airlift Wing in Nashville, the 164th Airlift Wing in Memphis and the 134th Air Refueling Wing in Knoxville. The support units are the 119th Command and Control Group in Knoxville, the 241st Engineering and Installation Squadron in Chattanooga and the 236th Intelligence Squadron in Nashville.

General Johnson entered the Air Force in October of 1976. Upon completion of basic training and technical school, he was assigned to the 363rd Tactical Fighter Wing, Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina. He enlisted in the Air National Guard with the 134th Air Refueling Wing in 1978 serving as a Crew Chief on KC-135 aircraft. General Johnson was commissioned in 1986 through the Academy of Military Science, McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base, Knoxville, Tennessee. He has served in various capacities throughout his career including Logistics Plans Officer, Supply Officer, Maintenance Operations Flight Commander, Aircraft Generation Squadron Commander, Mission Support Flight Commander, and the Advisor to the Commander, Air Reserve Personnel Center in Denver, Colorado. Prior to his current assignment, General Johnson served as the Deputy Director of Manpower, Personnel and Services for the Air National Guard in Washington, District of Columbia. As the Deputy Director, he was responsible for the oversight and direction of all day to day activities with the A1 Directorate supporting 107,600 Air National Guard members worldwide.
