Brigadier General Myron G. Ashcraft is the chief of staff, Headquarters, Ohio Air National Guard, Beightler Armory, Columbus, Ohio. He is responsible for directing the military operations of the Ohio Air National Guard. He coordinates with the Adjutant General's Department for the day-to-day functions of Ohio's four flying wings and four geographically separated units.
The general entered the Ohio Air National Guard in 1970 and received a direct commission in 1971. Following a unit conversion to the C-130, General Ashcraft was selected to form and command the 179th Operations Support Flight and was subsequently selected as the first traditional guardsman to command the Operations Group. A command pilot with more than 5,000 flying hours in fighter and transport aircraft, he has flown extensively throughout South America and Europe including humanitarian relief missions in the Balkans. In addition, he has commanded an Air Expeditionary Wing in the former Soviet Union. This combined/joint wing conducted around the clock combat operations in Afghanistan. Aircraft flown by the eight-nation coalition consisted of fighter, tanker, and SAR helicopters.
