Chief
of Staff, Tennessee Air National Guard
Brigadier General Harry D. Montgomery Jr. serves as Chief of Staff, Tennessee Air National Guard, Nashville, Tennessee. He is responsible for organizing, training and equipping approximately 3,600 Air National Guardsmen in Tennessee's three flying wings (C-5A, KC-135R and C-130H) and three mission support units. He serves as principal advisor to Assistant Adjutant General - Air on matters pertaining to the Tennessee Air National Guard and also serves as Deputy Joint Chief of Staff, Joint Force Headquarters - Tennessee.
General Montgomery received his commission in October 1982 through the Academy of Military Science at McGhee-Tyson Air Base, Knoxville, Tennessee. Prior to his commissioning, he enlisted in the United States Navy in June 1974 where he served aboard the USS Independence and the USS Eisenhower as a helicopter aircrew member based at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida. In August 1978 he joined the Tennessee Army National Guard as a helicopter crew chief assigned to the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment in Knoxville, Tennessee. General Montgomery graduated from the University of Tennessee in December 1981 and enlisted in the 134th Air Refueling Group. He completed the Air National Guard Academy of Military Science, Knoxville, Tennessee and was commissioned in 1982. He was selected to attend Undergraduate Pilot Training and received his pilot wings at Williams Air Force Base, Arizona in 1983. General Montgomery is a Command Pilot with over 8,000 hours of experience and is currently flying the C-5.
