BRIGADIER GENERAL JOHN G. SHEEDY

 

Assistant Adjutant General - Air, Illinois

Brigadier General John G. Sheedy is Assistant Adjutant General - Air, Illinois National Guard. General Sheedy also serves as the Commander of the Illinois Air National Guard. He is responsible for the command, control and operations of plans and programs affecting more than 3,000 Illinois Air National Guard personnel located at Scott Air Force Base, Peoria, and Springfield, Illinois. His broad range of responsibilities include insuring combat readiness and mission capability of three major flying units comprised of tanker, tactical airlift, fighter aircraft, and five mission support units. General Sheedy also supervises a full-time force of over 900 federal and state employees.

General Sheedy has more than 40 years time in service with 12 years enlisted before receiving his commission from the Academy of Military Science in 1980. He has served in numerous command and staff assignments including Squadron Commander, and task force commander during the 1993 Mississippi River flood. He was mobilized in 2003 and served as Air Mobility Command Headquarters, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. General Sheedy was the first Director of Special Staff for the Illinois National Guard. In addition to his assigned duties as Director of Special Staff, he served as the Functional Chief of Staff, Headquarters, Illinois Air National Guard.
