Brigadier General Brian R. Carpenter is Assistant Adjutant General - Army, Vermont National Guard. He is responsible for providing leadership, mentoring, oversight and evaluation to three O-6 level commands. In addition, General Carpenter is tasked to provide feedback and advice to The Adjutant General, Vermont on readiness issues, including unit status reports, annual training inspections and other internal and external reviews.
General Carpenter received his commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program upon graduating from Saint Lawrence University in 1984. He served on active duty with the United States Army in Germany and the Continental United States before joining the Vermont Army National Guard in 1993. General Carpenter's assignments include command at the battery, battalion and brigade levels, including leadership of Task Force Lobo, the Vermont contingent that performed security duty on the United States border with Mexico in 2006. He is a graduate of the Adjutant General Corps Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Master Fitness Trainer Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Command and General Staff Officer Course and Support Operations Course. Prior to his current assignment, General Carpenter served as Commander, 86th Troop Command, Vermont National Guard, a brigade-level organization made up of an air ambulance, engineer, medical, public affairs and other specialty units.
