Brigadier General Alberto C. Gonzalez assumed the duties as Assistant Adjutant General - Army and full-time director of the Arizona Army National Guard on 1 August 2011. As Assistant Adjutant General - Army, he was responsible to the Adjutant General for strategic planning, strength management, troop readiness and mobilization support of the state's 5,200 Army National Guard Soldiers.

General Gonzalez received his commission through the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Arizona in 1987. Prior to transferring to the Arizona Army National Guard in 1998, he served on active duty in a wide variety of assignments as both Infantry and Military Intelligence including rifle platoon leader, company commander and counterdrug intelligence officer. As a member of the Arizona National Guard his military assignments include Rear Area Operations Center Plans Officer and Operations Officer, Civil Support Team Deputy Commander, State Mobilization and Readiness Officer, State Training Officer, Director of Military Support, Commander, 1-158th Infantry Battalion, Deputy Chief of Staff - Operations, Commander, 215th Regional Training Institute and Chief of Staff, Arizona Army National Guard.
