Brigadier General Terry P. Heggemeier is the assistant adjutant general (Air) for the Minnesota National Guard based in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He is responsible for to exercising command and control, directing Air National Guard operations, and establishing policy to ensure mission readiness of the two Air National Guard Wings in Minnesota.
General Heggemeier graduated from the University of Kansas in 1970; his military career began shortly after as a 2nd Lieutenant. In 1971 he graduated from Undergraduate Navigator Training with the 3540th Navigator Training Squadron at Mather Air Force Base, Calif. Some of his significant duty assignments include: served as a Squadron Weapons Systems Officer 432nd TRW, 14th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron, Udorn RTAFB, Thailand, 1972, flying 129 combat missions. In 1975 he was assigned as an Air Force Advisor to the 148th TRG, Duluth, Minn. In 1977 he resigned his regular commission and joined the 179th TRS of the Minnesota Air National Guard serving as a Weapons Systems instructor. In 1995, General Heggemeier was selected as the vice-wing commander of the 133rd Airlift Wing, St. Paul, Minn. General Heggemeier was promoted to colonel on 24 July 1997. He was assigned as the wing commander of the 133rd Airlift Wing in 1998 and served as commander until the fall of 2002. He then served as the chief of staff (Air) until 17 March, 2004 when we was promoted to his current position.
