BRIGADIER GENERAL TONY E. MCMILLAN

 

Chief of Staff, North Carolina Air National Guard

Brigadier General Tony E. McMillan is Chief of Staff, North Carolina Air National Guard. He directs the Air National Guard staff assigned to the North Carolina Joint Force Headquarters in providing higher headquarters support to over 1,495 personnel in 22 units assigned to the North Carolina Air National Guard. He advises the Adjutant General on strategic matters involving the North Carolina Air National Guard and is the primary advocate for strategic initiatives. He also serves as the Assistant Adjutant General for Domestic Operations. In this role, he serves as the Adjutant General's senior representative to civil authorities on a wide variety of plans, exercises, and training as it pertains to the National Guard Role in Domestic Operations. Additionally, General McMillan serves as the Joint Task Force commander and has oversight over the 60th Troop Command and 139th Training Regiment on behalf of the Adjutant General.

General McMillan received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in 1983 and attended Air Force pilot training at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas. He earned his pilot wings in 1985 and remained at Laughlin Air Force Base as a pilot instructor. He completed C-130 qualification training at Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas in 1988 and was assigned to Rhein-Main Air Base, Germany. General McMillan joined the North Carolina Air National Guard in 1993. Since joining the North Carolina Air National Guard, he has served as Aircraft Commander, Instructor Pilot, Evaluator Pilot, Flight Commander, Squadron Operations Officer, Operations Group Commander, Vice Wing Commander and Wing Commander. General McMillan is a command pilot with over 5,000 hours of military flying time.
