MAJOR GENERAL JOHN B. HANDY

 

Major General John B. Handy is the mobilization assistant to the director of the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA). Under the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics; DCMA was created'and designated as a Combat Support Agency'in March 2000. Its 12,000 civilian and military leaders, managers, and technical experts ensure the readiness of the military services through customer-focused acquisition life cycle support and contract management services on over 300,000 contracts valued in excess of $973 billion. The agency also is chartered to streamline and standardize the contracting process within the Department of Defense. General Handy is responsible for managing the reserve component support to the agency and serves as an advisor/confidant to the director and the agency's Senior Leadership Team.

Prior to joining DCMA, Maj. Gen. Handy was the deputy commanding general, air, District of Columbia National Guard. In that position, he was responsible to the commanding general for the two District of Columbia Air National Guard (DCANG) flying units, a combat communications squadron, and a weather flight. In this role he also directed and supervised the activities of the headquarters staff.

Maj. Gen. Handy was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Program in 1973. As a civil engineering officer, he served in Air Force Civil Engineering positions in Arizona, Greece, and the National Capital Region. He has commanded a civil engineering squadron and support group in an Air Combat Command-tasked wing in the DCANG.
