Commander, 26th Maneuver Enhanced Brigade

Brigadier General John A. Hammond was Commander, 26th Maneuver Enhanced Brigade, Kabul, Afghanistan. He was responsible for the security, life support, construction and contracting for the 11 United States bases and Title 10 activities, as well as the counterinsurgency, humanitarian assistance activities and area support missions for United States Forces within Kabul Province, Afghanistan. General Hammond also served as Commander, Task Force Yankee and Kabul Base Cluster Command. Task Force Yankee is the senior operational United States Headquarters in Regional Command Capital.

General Hammond was commissioned as a second lieutenant of Military Police in 1983 through the Massachusetts Military Academy Officer Candidate School. He holds a Bachelors Degree from the University of Massachusetts, a Master of Science Degree from Boston University, and completed a National Security fellowship at Harvard University. General Hammond has commanded at the Platoon, Troop, Battalion and Brigade level as a Military Police, Cavalry and Infantry Officer in support of all three campaigns in the Global War on Terror; Operation Noble Eagle (Homeland Security), Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) and Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2003, he was called upon to simultaneously command two separate Battalion level combined arms task forces in Iraq; Task Force Patriot in the Balad Region of the Sunni Triangle, and a Counterinsurgent Task Force called Enforcer, in Fallujah. In addition to his operational assignments, General Hammond deployed to New Orleans in support of Hurricane Katrina, and served as the Chief of Staff, Massachusetts Joint Force Headquarters, overseeing the operational readiness of the 8000 Soldiers and Airmen of the Massachusetts National Guard.
