Commander, Land Component Command, New Mexico Army National Guard
Brigadier General Juan L. Griego is Commander, Land Component Command, New Mexico National Guard. He is directly responsible for the training and readiness of Army elements within the New Mexico National Guard. General Griego exercises direct leadership and is responsible for the safety, welfare and combat readiness for over 2900 Army National Guardsmen within two O-6 commands. General Griego oversees the preparation and execution of an annual Army operating budget of nearly $20 million dollars, and institutes recruiting and retention in 21 deployable units located in over 30 armories across the state of New Mexico.
General Juan L. Griego was commissioned in 1984 through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program at New Mexico State University. He has held a variety of positions including Command at the Company, Battalion and Brigade levels as well as staff positions at the Battalion, Brigade and Joint Force Headquarters levels. Prior to assignment as Commander, Land Component Command, General Griego served as Deputy Chief, Joint Staff, New Mexico. His military education includes United States Army Ordnance Basic and Advance Courses, Combined Armed Services and Staff Course, Command and General Staff Course, and the National War College.
