BRIGADIER GENERAL EUGENE L. MASCOLO

 

Director, Joint Staff, Connecticut National Guard

Brigadier General Eugene L. Mascolo is Director, Joint Staff, Connecticut National Guard. He oversees joint and interagency programs and is the primary advisor to The Adjutant General for domestic operations. General Mascolo is a qualified dual status commander and commander of Joint Task Force Connecticut. Joint Task Force Connecticut is the state-level headquarters responsible to The Adjutant General for exercise of command and control over National Guard and active duty joint forces in a domestic response in the State of Connecticut.

General Mascolo was commissioned a second lieutenant, Infantry, in 1979, through the State of Connecticut Officer Candidate School. He has commanded at the platoon, company, battalion and brigade levels. General Mascolo deployed to Baghdad, Iraq in late 2004 serving as Director of Security with the Joint Area Support Group-Central in the International Zone. He was responsible to coordinate International Zone security policy with the Iraqi Government, the international diplomatic community spanning three embassies and seven diplomatic missions, the Iraqi Police and the international security contractor community. General Mascolo has commanded Connecticut National Guard Forces during three historic natural disasters. He commanded Joint Task Force Guardian during the response to Tropical Storm Irene in September 2011, Joint Task Force October during the response to the October 2011 Winter Storm and Joint Task Force Connecticut during the response to Superstorm Sandy in September 2012.

CIVILIAN OCCUPATION:

Brigadier General Mascolo retired from the Derby, Connecticut Police Department in 2010 after 30 years service, serving as a patrol officer, member of the department emergency response team, police sniper, narcotics officer with the Statewide Narcotics Task Force, Deputy Chief of Police for 12 years and Chief of Police for four years.
