Adjutant General - Air, Virginia National Guard
Brigadier General Zane R. Johnson is the Assistant Adjutant General - Air, Virginia National Guard based in Richmond, Virginia. General Johnson is responsible for leading the Virginia Air National Guard, assisting units in setting organizational goals and empowering commanders in executing their respective plans, programs and missions. He analyzes and evaluates training programs and operational readiness levels to determine mission capability and unit effectiveness. As the Assistant Adjutant General - Air, he is the primary advisor to the Adjutant General of Virginia on matters both State and Federal, pertaining to the Air National Guard.
General Johnson earned his commission as a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute's Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program in 1984. He transitioned from active duty Air Force to the New Jersey Air National Guard in 1992 and transferred to the Virginia Air National Guard in 1997. He is a command pilot with more than 3,000 flying hours in the F-15, F-16 and F-22 and over 5,000 hours commercial time. He has served in numerous Air Force and Air National Guard flying and operations assignments, as well as command positions at the wing and headquarters levels. Prior to assuming his current position, he served as Vice Commander, 192nd Fighter Wing, Virginia Air National Guard at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia.
