BRIGADIER GENERAL STEPHEN M. ATKINSON

 

Chief of Staff, Maine Air National Guard

Brigadier General Stephen M. Atkinson is Chief of Staff, Maine Air National Guard, Maine Joint Force Headquarters, Camp Keyes, Augusta, Maine. He is a primary advisor to The Adjutant General for all Air National Guard units in Maine and ensures the combat readiness and mission capability of an Air Refueling Wing and two Geographically Separated Units. General Atkinson is responsible for the command, control and operations of plans and programs affecting more than 1,100 Maine Air National Guard personnel located in Augusta, Bangor and South Portland. General Atkinson also serves as the A4, Assistant to the Director, Air National Guard. He serves as a primary advisor to the Director for all logistics matters to include, but not limited to supply, maintenance, transportation, acquisition logistics, installation/facility and environmental issues.

General Atkinson joined the Air Force and was commissioned in November 1977 through the Academy of Military Science, Knoxville, Tennessee. After completion of pilot training, he was assigned to Bangor Air National Guard Base, Maine. He served in numerous flying and operations assignments and held squadron, group and wing command positions.
