Adjutant General - Army, Wisconsin National Guard
Brigadier General Dominic A. Cariello is the Assistant Adjutant General - Army, Wisconsin National Guard. In this assignment, General Cariello assists the Adjutant General (TAG) and Assistant Adjutant General in providing an Army National Guard capable of accomplishing state and federal missions. He liaisons with the Wisconsin Army National Guard, United States Army Reserve, state and local officials and associations as required. General Cariello participates in the Army Improvement Criteria process. He is responsible for the Command Inspection program and follow-up for all units of the Wisconsin Army National Guard to ensure readiness is maintained at the highest levels. General Cariello is also dual-hatted as Deputy Commanding General, Training Support Division (West), First United States Army and is responsible for, in accordance with the Army Force Generation (ARFORGEN) model, conducting training readiness oversight and mobilization of designated Active, National Guard and Reserve component forces in the western area of responsibility in order to provide trained and ready forces to regional combatant commanders. He may also be assigned operational missions by the Adjutant General.
General Cariello was commissioned August 14, 1983, through the Wisconsin Military Academy. Prior to receiving his commission, he served as an enlisted member of the Wisconsin Army National Guard. He enlisted in the Army Reserve in 1981 and during his brief time in that component served as a tank crewman and commander, certified as a drill sergeant, was named Outstanding Soldier of the Year for the 84th Division and received the General George S. Patton Outstanding Tanker Award at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
General Cariello spent more than 24 years as an officer in the 57th Brigade, and assumed command of the brigade December 11, 2004. As commander, he oversaw the brigade's transition to the 157th movement enhancement brigade. During his tenure as the brigade commander, he deployed to New Orleans as the Task Force Wisconsin Commander for Katrina and then deployed as commander of Task Force Wisconsin Forward 23 Embedded Training Team from December 12, 2005 to March 2007 as an embedded trainer and mentor to Afghan National Army soldiers.
