Commander,
43rd Military Police Brigade
Brigadier General James E. Keighley is Commander, 43rd Military Police Brigade; he also serves as the Ground Component Commander for state emergencies. General Keighley is directly responsible to the Commanding General, Rhode Island National Guard for all matters pertaining to the health, welfare, training, discipline and combat readiness of the 1000 Soldiers assigned to the brigade.
General Keighley was commissioned in 1981 through the Officer Candidate School program with the Massachusetts National Guard. Prior to receiving his commission, General Keighley served for nine years as a Senior Military Policeman with the 772nd Military Police Company of the Massachusetts National Guard. General Keighley has deployed as a Company Commander in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, as a Battalion Commander in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I, and most recently as the Deputy Commander, 43d Military Police Brigade in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in May 2007. He directed the staff operations of all detainee operations in theater including the trials of former Ba'athist Party leadership. During this period, General Keighley assumed command of Camp Bucca with responsibility and oversight for detainee operations.
