Major General John E. McCoy

Major General John E. McCoy served as the Air National Guard Assistant to the Commander, Air Education and Training Command. He was responsible for advising and assisting the Commander and staff on formulating, developing, and coordinating policies and programs impacting more than 105,000 Air National Guard members. General McCoy ensures mission requirements of the 90 Flying Wings and 88 Support Units are considered in all phases of Air Education and Training Command lines of effort. General McCoy also serves as the Air National Guard Director's Liaison to the Air Education and Training Command Commander.

General McCoy was commissioned in 1986 through the Air National Guard Academy of Military Science. He has served with distinction in a number of demanding positions within the Wisconsin Air National Guard, including flight and group command. At Joint Force Headquarters Wisconsin, he served as the Director of Manpower and Personnel/J1, Director of Staff-Air, Assistant Adjutant General-Air, Chief of Staff, Director, Joint Staff and Deputy Adjutant General, Civil Support. At the national level he was the dual-hat Air National Guard Assistant to the Commander, 24th Air Force, Air Force Space Command, and former Vice Chairman of the Air National Guard Strategic Planning System Steering Committee. Additionally, he served as the Air Education and Training Command Vice Commander during a significant gap in active duty assignments. Prior to receiving his commission, General McCoy served as an enlisted member of both the Wisconsin Army and Air National Guard.
