Brigadier General Annette M. Deener is Director, Joint Staff, Maryland Joint Force Headquarters. As a senior level assistant to the Adjutant General, she is responsible for developing plans and policies and executing the Adjutant General's command directives pertaining to defense support of civil authorities in Maryland. She oversees the military function of the Maryland Joint Operations Center, the Civil Support Team, the Counter Drug Program and the State Partnership Program.
General Deener was commissioned through the Maryland Army National Guard
Officer Candidate School as a second lieutenant in the Medical Service Corps
branch and assigned as a platoon leader to B Company, 58th Support Battalion.
Prior to receiving her commission, she served as an enlisted member of the 698th
Supply Company, United States Army Reserve. General Deener began working
full-time for the Maryland Army National Guard in 1984 as the Management
Information Systems Officer. She went on to serve as the Director of Information
Systems Management, the Director of Military Personnel, and the Director of
Human Resources. As an additional duty, General Deener served as the Army
National Guard representative to the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the
Services (DACOWITS) from 1999-2001. She was Commander, State Area Regional
Command and J1 for the Maryland National Guard. Her career would then progress
to the position of Chief of Staff of the Maryland National Guard in 2005.
